It turns out they evolve faster, probably because of a higher metabolism rate.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure I believe it&#8217;s the main reason \u2013 my gut feeling is that the higher population density has more to do with it, but it does of course explain why the species are so different.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Guardian has an interesting article about the reason why there are more species in the tropics.
