My sister recently visited us together with her husband and their daughter for a few days.<\/p>\n

Bj\u00f8rn’s mum is originally from Cologne, so he was very interested when he heard I had brewed a K\u00f6lsch clone, given that K\u00f6lsch is Cologne’s own type of beer.<\/p>\n

They therefore brought me a bottle and a can of real K\u00f6lsch, and together with a bottle that Phyllis’s old friend Shona brought back from Cologne recently, we were able to conduct a scientific tasting of four varieties of K\u00f6lsch:<\/p>\n

  1. Gaffel K\u00f6lsch<\/a>\n
  2. Reissdorf K\u00f6lsch<\/a>\n
  3. K\u00fcppers K\u00f6lsch<\/a>\n
  4. Buchwider Br\u00e4u ??<\/a>\n<\/ol>\n

    The winner was the K\u00fcppers, but my ?? gave it a run for its money, whereas both Bj\u00f8rn and I agreed that the Reissdorf and especially the Gaffel were much worse.<\/p>\n

    Technically speaking, mine is a “Wie\u00df”, i.e., a cloudy K\u00f6lsch, so it was easy to recognise it from the way it looked, but otherwise the main difference between it and the K\u00fcppers was a slight hint of banana on the nose.<\/p>\n

    For a first attempt at brewing K\u00f6lsch, I must say I’m very happy to have beaten two out of three real ones.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
