{"id":8002,"date":"2018-08-04T23:03:05","date_gmt":"2018-08-04T22:03:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/widmann.scot\/?p=8002"},"modified":"2018-08-04T23:03:05","modified_gmt":"2018-08-04T22:03:05","slug":"the-pound-since-i-moved-to-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/widmanniana.org\/blog\/the-pound-since-i-moved-to-scotland\/","title":{"rendered":"The pound since I moved to Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I always find it hard to remember the \u00a3\/\u20ac exchange rate because it&#8217;s always about stuff after the decimal point (my brain is a bit funny in that way), so I tend to prefer to keep track of the state of the Pound Sterling in terms of Danish crowns instead (the exchange rate of the latter is tied to within 2.25% of the euro through the ERM-II mechanism).<\/p>\n<p>When I moved to Scotland, I could buy slightly more than 12 crowns for a pound, but it&#8217;s now been closer to 8 for a long time:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/fxtop.com\/en\/historical-exchange-rates-graph-zoom.php?C1=GBP&amp;C2=DKK&amp;A=1&amp;DD1=11&amp;MM1=03&amp;YYYY1=2002&amp;DD2=04&amp;MM2=08&amp;YYYY2=2018&amp;LARGE=1&amp;LANG=en&amp;CJ=0&amp;MM1Y=0\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/widmanniana.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/gbp-dkk.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8005\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I wonder whether I would have accepted my first job in Scotland if the exchange rate had been 8 instead of 12 \u2013 a monthly salary of DKK 18k sounds a lot less attractive than DKK 27k, and I think my employer would have found it much harder to justify paying me a salary of \u00a340,500 rather than \u00a327k.
